Working with deities in witchcraft can be a powerful, transformative experience, but let’s be honest, it can also feel a bit overwhelming at first. Should you call on Athena or Freya? Is it okay to light a candle for Hecate without a full moon and a thunderstorm? The truth is, you can call on whichever deity you feel you might need at that moment. You can call on more than one, and there&#8217;s really no rules apart from:

This is the most important part. The last thing you want to do is piss off a powerful deity. This beginner’s guide to working with deities in witchcraft will help you understand the who, why, and how of building a relationship with gods and goddesses, complete with deity profiles, FAQs, and a unique spell to help you connect.

What Does It Mean to Work with Deities in Witchcraft?

Working with a deity in witchcraft means forming a spiritual relationship with a god or goddess. It’s not the same as worship, though it can be. Think of it like a collaboration, a sacred partnership. You bring your energy, offerings, and intent; they bring wisdom, protection, and divine vibes. You don’t need to be initiated into a specific tradition or know ancient Greek to start. All you need is respect, consistency, and a pinch of courage.

How Do I Know Which Deity to Work With?

This is the most common question for beginners. And the answer? Sometimes they choose you! Meditation is a great way to find which deity you are drawn to or which one is drawn to you. Simply close your eyes and see if any names, symbols or anything pops into your head. When you open your eyes, write down what came to you and research if any of it is related to a god or goddess. For example, When I first started my journey, I meditated and got so relaxed, I was in that stage between sleep and awake and what came to me was a horned man, and a woman looking at the moon. When I came round, I instantly wrote this down so I didnt forget, and when I reserched what had come to me, I was met with Pan the horned god and Selene Goddess of the moon. 🖤 American Horror Story: Coven

American Horror Story. This one is the holy grail for modern witchy TV shows. Think voodoo queens, Supreme drama, and fierce fashion straight from a goth runway. It’s a dark, stylish clash of old magic and new rebellion. One of Ryan Murphy&#8217;s best creations with familiar AHS faces and the Queen of witchery herself, Stevie Nicks! The only reason we rate this a 4 on the cauldron scale is because one season just wasn&#8217;t enough!

✨ Agatha All Along

Down down down the road&#8230;down the witches road! This Wanda Vision spin-off is pure chaos magic in action. Kathryn Hahn is freaking EPIC! Agatha all along is funny, dangerous, with lots of twists and turns.  This witchy tv series is not like any other you have seen. Marvel + witchcraft = a crossover spell gone right. We&#8217;re on the edge of our seats waiting for season 2!

Cauldron Score: 5/5 – Mischief magic with a banger theme song.

🩸 The Vampire Diaries

Witches, vampires, doppelgängers, oh my! Bonnie Bennett is the unsung hero of this teen drama, and her magical moments add depth to a show that’s more blood-soaked romance than broomstick flight. Still, the coven drama is real. So even if you&#8217;re not a big vamp fan, The Vampire Diaries is worth the watch just for Bonnie! She really needs her own spin- off series.

Cauldron Score: 4/5 – As far as witchy tv shows go, this one is more fangs than hexes, but still enchanted.

🔥 Salem

This one’s dark, gritty, and dripping with satanic panic. Not for the faint of heart or stomach. This twisted take on the Salem witch trials delivers a horror-laced look at power, manipulation, and dark magic. Historical accuracy? Hex no. Entertaining? Absolutely.

Cauldron Score 4/5 – Unholy and unforgettable.

🕯 Penny Dreadful

One of the more Gothic, gorgeous and genuinely chilling witchy tv shows. Vanessa Ives is the ultimate cursed witch queen, battling demons both internal and infernal. It’s like watching a séance in a haunted cathedral. Pair with black candles and absinthe. The Victorian vibes make it all the more magickal for sure.

Cauldron Score: 3/5 – Dark divine with Victorian vibes.

📚 A Discovery of Witches

If “sexy academic witch romance” isn’t a genre, this show makes it one. It’s all ancient books, forbidden love, and beautiful scenery. A must for fans of slow-burn storytelling and library aesthetics.

Cauldron Score: 3/5 – great series, bit of a slow burn.

👻 Supernatural

Oh the Winchester brothers where do we begin! This legendary due have a long and complicated relationship with witches. Some are foes, some are flings, and some are both. Not exactly witch-centric, but plenty of spell craft and lore for the occult-inclined viewer. Plus we just love Rowena.

One thing we LOVE about Supernatural, is the way they include real legends and folklore etc from the real world and most of the characters you see on screen you can read about in books. Super interesting and for that reason and the fact we&#8217;re huge fans, Supernatural gets 5/5 on the Cauldron scale!

Cauldron Score: 5/5 – binge worthy and full of interesting lore and legends.

🌙 Witches of East End

Think the “Desperate Housewives” of witchy tv shows . A bit soapy, a bit silly, and totally bingeable. Great for cosy vibes and low-stakes magical drama. Not as great as some of the others on this list, but it&#8217;s defiantly worth a watch.

Cauldron score: 3/5 – Wine, wands, and family curses.

🧛 Buffy the Vampire Slayer

A total classic! A bit dated now, but we still love it along with the nostalgia it brings! More of a vamp based series, but Willow Rosenberg: from shy nerd to powerful witch queen has a big role. Buffy’s world is filled with demons, but the spell work and magic are what make this show immortal. An essential part of any magical series collection.

Cauldron Score: 4/5 – bit dated now, but a total classic and a must watch!

🔮 Charmed (Original)

Another nostalgic bit of witchery and a staple of late ‘90s magical television. The Power of Three never goes out of style, and each sister brings something witchy to the table. Spell books, demons, vintage crystals and more. Charmed is witch core perfection.

🕷 Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Dark and edgy with Satanic vibes. This darker reboot of the teenage witch is visually stunning and full of occult references. Think blood pacts and pentagrams. Those who grew up in the 90&#8217;s wanting to be like the teenage witch, will love this one.

Cauldron Score 4/5 – Hail Satan, but fashionably.

🏡 Mayfair Witches

Based on Anne Rice&#8217;s Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy, this AMC series is full of ghosts, secrets, and southern gothic magic. The family legacy is cursed, the aesthetic is dark. We&#8217;re huge fans of anything that comes form the mind of Anne Rice, and having read the books, the series did not disappoint!

Cauldron Score: 5/5 – Hauntingly beautiful

🧚Fate: The Winx Saga

A teen fantasy full of elemental magic and schoolyard drama. It’s Hogwarts meets Hot Topic with fae vibes and fireballs. Definitely for the younger witchlings in your coven. but worth a watch.

Cauldron Score: 3/5 – Great for Teen witches, but a bit hard hard going for the older witch.

🧬 The Originals

This Vampire Diaries spin-off features way more Witch drama and we LOVE it. The New Orleans setting is dripping with mystical energy, and the witch factions are fierce AF. The only downside is we&#8217;re missing our favourite Witch Bonnie Bennett! for that reason, The originals gets a 4/5.

Cauldron Score: 4/5 – Voodoo vibes and witchy wins.

🍵 The Good Witch

Light, wholesome, and Hallmark to its core. If your idea of spell work is baking cookies with intention and setting gentle boundaries with your aura, this is your show. Cosy cottage core witches, assemble!

Cauldron Score: 3/5 – Cosy viewing with white magick vibes.

📖 The Magicians

This one’s like if Harry Potter grew up, got traumatized, and started doing chaos magic with poor coping mechanisms. It’s irreverent, messy, and totally unique. Adult witchy vibes with real emotional depth.

🌌 His Dark Materials

While not strictly a “witch TV show,” Serafina Pekkala brings sky-witch vibes like no one else. You don&#8217;t want to mess with these witches! The whole series is laced with spiritual themes, parallel worlds, and deep magic. Philip Pullman is a legend!

Cauldron Score: 5/5 – Introspective, icy, and mythical.

🩸 True Blood

The witches don’t show up till later seasons, but when they do? Oh boy. It’s a wild ride. Sexy, violent, and unapologetically weird. Don’t expect realism. Expect lots of glamour and gore.

Cauldron Score: 4/5  – Bloody, bewitched, and bonkers.

🌀 The Secret Circle

An early 2010s CW gem. It was cancelled too soon, but the potential was strong! Teen witches balancing love triangles and ancient evils. Think “Buffy” meets “Twilight,” but more coven-heavy.

Cauldron Score: 3/5– Short-lived but spell-worthy.

💚 Emerald City

This dark reimagining of Oz leans into mysticism and magic like never before. Gorgeous visuals, twisted lore, and some truly underrated magical moments. Not your childhood Dorothy, trust me!

👁 Shadowhunters

While the witches (or “warlocks”) aren’t the focus, Magnus Bane absolutely steals the show. Dramatic, glittery, and powerful as hell. A flashy, chaotic magical ride.

Is Magick real?

Is Magick real? Am I a witch? If you find yourself asking this question, the chances are you definitely are a witch. However, what makes someone a witch? Being a witch can mean something different for each person. For example, feeling connected to nature, sensing somebody’s vibe is off, or even being able to predict things before they happen.

Personally, I believe we all have abilities we can tap into; it’s just that most of us choose not to. To quote Roald Dahl “Those who don’t believe in magic, will never find it!” And it’s so true. You have to believe in magick to feel it.

Some of us struggle sometimes with believing in something we cannot see. When I first started my spiritual journey over 20 years ago, I battled with what I was being drawn to and what I believed was true scientifically.

Only when I realised they were the same thing could I fully embrace my craft and the path I was drawn to. Yes, I fully believe science and witchcraft are completely and utterly connected, and here’s why…

Picture yourself back in the 1600’s. You’re a humble milkmaid, and you somehow time-travel to 2025. Someone shows you a smartphone. They tell you that you can watch people acting out shows on this small device, you can talk to people all over the world, and it can answer any question you have. Signals are flying around everywhere connecting these devices, but they’re invisible.

There are huge towers that connect energy to our homes and give us light. You’re told we can travel in the sky to faraway lands and even go up into space. You make it back to 1600, and you try to explain what you have seen, but you are hanged. For this must be witchcraft and can’t possibly be true. 
You get the idea. We can’t see electricity, but we know it’s real. Same with WIFI and Bluetooth, and even the energy from the sun. Science tells us that energy exists. We know energy cannot be created nor destroyed. We know we can harness it and manipulate it. That’s all witchcraft is, energy.

In witchcraft, we work with the energy from inside of us, the energy from the moon or even the sun. We work with crystals, herbs and even sound. Science tells us all of these things have energy and frequencies.

So to answer the question &#8220;Is Magick Real?&#8221;, there is Magick all around us every single day, and most people don’t think twice about it. Nature example, did you know that when a woman is pregnant, if she suffers organ damage, the baby inside of her will send stem cells to repair that organ! How is that not Magick? 
Another one of my favourites is that trees are connected via an underground network of fungi called mycelium. This allows trees to communicate with each other and send nutrients. When I first heard this one, it made me think of Avatar it really sounds mystical and made up, but this is real, and there are so many more examples of Magick in everything around us.

And if science can’t explain it, that doesn’t mean it’s not real; it just means we’re not there yet. I’m convinced even the unexplained will one day be explained. I also think that nature and everything around us is pure Magick.
